Active Learning Classrooms in Education SummitMinneapolis, Minnesota August 2015 At this active learning conference, I attended a variety of sessions over the course of a long weekend. Each session was dedicated to the different ways in which educators can create active and engaging classroom environments for their students. One such session included how to create interactive lessons in low-tech classrooms. At the time, the school where I taught had no technology for the students. From this conference, I learned about new ways to use low-tech resources such as whiteboards to continue to facilitate student collaboration and conversation. The conference was the first professional development I attended outside of the school where I worked; so not only did it provide new strategies for teaching, but I was also able to practice my own networking skills as a young professional.

Job-Alike IB Diploma Program COnferenceBeijing, China
January 2018 Closely related to the IB online courses, the Job-Alike Conferences held by the IB are another way for educators to better their practice within the program. At this particular conference, I spent a weekend at a neighboring school meeting with other Diploma Program teachers. In some sessions, teachers were mixed by subject, in others we were with those who taught the same content. The sessions were a chance for the group to discuss strategies that worked in their classes, as well as the IB requirements as a whole. At the time, I was training to become a DP teacher, but I had yet to teach a DP class. As an educator working in the MYP, however, meeting and collaborating with teachers who were working with the next age group of students was incredibly informative and helpful to my practice. I could reflect on where my students would be headed in the next few years, therefore giving myself a better chance to prepare them for their futures.
